I seem to get cold sores at the most inopportune times. Why do I get them, and how can I help prevent or treat them?

Cold sores are caused by a virus that when triggered shows as sores around the lips. According to research, too much food that contains arginine (including certain types of meat, whole grains, beans and dairy products), stress and sun exposure may potentially trigger the herpes virus and cause cold sores.
Best prevention is to strengthen the immune system by having good eating and sleeping habits.
Usual treatment consists of topical ointments, antiviral prescription medications to prevent and laser therapy.
Laser therapy is painless and speeds healing and prolong lapses of recurring activity.
